The Cooke family runs Molewood Orchard on the edge of Greytown. They decided to throw open the farm gates after rethinking their distribution model, allowing customers to wander through the extensive orchard every weekend.
Visitors can choose their own apples, with varieties like galaxy and sunglow red delicious ready to pick, alongside four varieties of pre-plucked pears. The price point for apples and pre-picked pears is just $2 a kg.
Pick your own opportunities are available till the end of May every weekend, including over the Easter weekend. A helpful guide to ripening times is published at the farm gate for apple aficionados.
