Kua Kawhe (meaning “have coffee”) is a homely café and gallery space situated next to Luke’s Kitchen in Kuaotunu. The café pours Coffee LaLa beans roasted just a kilometre away and serves simple breakfasts, toasties and treats baked in its on-site kitchen. On Sundays the team makes fresh doughnuts, and the shelves display ceramics, hot sauces and other goods crafted by local artisans. When in season the café also sells locally grown walnuts, salad greens and avocados. Open throughout the year, Kua Kawhe provides a relaxed meeting place for locals with a strong emphasis on supporting neighbouring producers and artists.
