Sumner’s Bohemian Bakery is the seaside extension of everything Bohemian stands for: slow-fermented bread, honest pastries, and ingredients grounded in Canterbury’s soils. The shelves are filled daily with sourdoughs made from Milmore Downs organic whole-wheat and rye, spray-free Farmers Mill flour, and honest food crafted the long way — never rushed, never improvised with additives.
Located in the heart of Sumner Mall, the bakery opens early to catch the first walkers and swimmers drifting through town. People queue with sandy feet and surfboards under one arm, ordering Prima coffee, T-leaf teas, and cold drinks from Karma, Almighty, and the Chia Sisters. On sunny days the pastries disappear quickly — and on very sunny days, almost instantly.
