The Cheese Barn is a family-owned operation established in 1994. It functions as a cheese factory, BYO café, gift shop, and animal farm. The business specializes in BioGro-certified organic cheeses made from unhomogenized cow’s milk sourced from nearby farms. The barn produces award-winning varieties including Traditional Dutch Gouda, Halloumi, Camembert, and Brie, along with yoghurts, gelato, and sorbet. All products are free of GMOs, artificial additives, antibiotics, and chemical sprays. In 2023, its Organic Halloumi earned the Champion Award and a Gold Medal at the New Zealand Cheese Awards. The site has an animal farm with alpacas, goats, rabbits, and birds. This adds a family-oriented attraction for casual tourists visiting the Hauraki Rail Trail.
