Crooked Vege is a non-profit market garden in Ōtaki, started by Jonathan Mines and Tae Luke-Hurley. They grow with organic and regenerative methods, and they believe good food has to be for everyone, whatever their income.
Locals join the Ōtaki Vege Bags subscription, run with Ōtaki College’s Ahoaho māra kai. Members pay what they can: less than the suggested value when money is tight, more when they can afford it. Each bag holds what is in season, such as tomatoes, capsicums, bok choy and leafy greens.
The garden also supplies some local shops and eateries. Sign up for a bag on the Crooked Vege website.
