Daryn Rickwood and Louise Penny started Salty River Farm in 2014 after moving to a 50-acre plot on the tidal arm of the Kaipara Harbour. They grow from seed, focusing on soil health and using hydroponics for lettuces and herbs with filtered, recycled rainwater.
Their produce includes lettuce, coriander, dill, zucchini, scallopini, basil, tomatoes, beans, watercress, baby chard, miner’s lettuce, snow peas and rocket. They are chemical-free, using natural minerals and bird nets instead of synthetic pesticides.
You can find their produce at the Matakana Village Farmers Market or order online through Ooooby for delivery within a 70km radius.
