NZ Kelp began with food-grade kelp, now sold under the Valére brand. The Beattie family first dried and flaked kelp onto fish at beach barbecues, then cracked it into smaller pieces to use as a table seasoning. This became Valére Kelp Pepper.
The kelp is hand-gathered from live plants in New Zealand waters. Each batch can be traced to its harvest area under the quota management system. Nothing is added during processing. Water is removed through air drying and gentle dehumidification, retaining the kelp’s colour and flavour.
The company’s 2026-27 organic certification page explicitly covers wild harvesting, processing and marketing of Valére Kelp Pepper. Customers can contact NZ Kelp or use the website to order. Its separate Zelp range supplies agricultural and horticultural uses.
