The McMiken family has been growing fruit in the Waikato since 1914, establishing Newstead Orchard in 1963 after their original land became part of The University of Waikato campus. They aim to honour the history and tradition of the McMiken orchardists while finding new ways of sustaining access to local fruit for the region.
The orchard offers plums, apples, pears, and garden produce when in season. The public orchard shop is at 552 State Highway 26, Newstead, Hamilton. It is closed during winter and spring, until summer; confirm seasonal opening before travelling.
